Dr. Grundstrom’s Commitment to Excellence in Preventative Dentistry

Dr. Grundstrom believes that the doctor/patient relationship is essential to providing the best results to her patients. Her philosophy stresses an “it’s never too late to begin the process to better dental health” approach.

She encourages new patients and those who have neglected dental visits in the past to schedule a consultation. Her experience in emergency dentistry, hospital dentistry, and conscious sedation along with her aesthetic approach to cosmetic and restorative procedures make Dr. Grundstrom the perfect choice for Jefferson City and Cole County area patients.

In addition to routine maintenance, Dr. Grundstrom offers many procedures, including the ones listed below. Please feel free to click on the links to read about some of the general dentistry procedures offered at her Jefferson City practice.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

A filling is a restoration of part of a tooth’s lost structure with such materials as plastics, porcelain, or alloys. In modern dentistry, there are many substances that can be used to achieve a very natural look. At Dr. Grundstrom’s practice, she is proud to offer fillings made from materials that precisely match the color of natural teeth.

Bridges

Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They are comprised of a replacement tooth (or teeth) supported on either end by a crown. There are three types of dental bridges:

Crowns

Crowns are used to reinforce teeth that are weakened or cracked. They cover the entire surface area of a damaged tooth, restoring strength and beauty while preserving as much of the original tooth’s structure as possible.

Endodontics

Endodontics, or root canal therapy, is performed when the nerve tissue inside a tooth has become infected. After the infection has been removed, the nerve chamber is filled, and the tooth is sealed with a porcelain crown. Root canal therapy enables the patient to keep part of the original tooth, as opposed to undergoing complete extraction.

Conscious Sedation Dentistry

Dr. Grundstrom offers several sedation dentistry techniques that are recognized by the American Dental Association as viable and safe options for patients who experience mild to moderate anxiety when faced with the thought of dental work. These techniques are also a perfect solution for those who want to accomplish multiple procedures in one visit.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is the perfect solution for people who experience mild anxiety at the prospect of having dental work. It involves prescribing an oral sedative drug that you will take in the office prior to your procedure. Examples of these medications include Valium® , Halcion®, and Dalmane® .

In some cases, patients are given oral sedatives to take on the evening before an appointment. If the drug is taken at home, the patient will have to arrange transportation to and from the appointment, as they should not drive any type of motor vehicle prior to or 24 hours following the appointment.

Inhalation Conscious Sedation

Inhalation conscious sedation, or laughing gas as it is more commonly known, is used by more than 35 percent of U.S. dental practitioners. It remains the most frequently used sedation technique for alleviating mild to moderate degrees of dental anxiety. It involves the inhalation of a nitrous oxide and oxygen combination that results in a relaxed state.

One advantage of this technique is a prompt patient recovery, negating the need for an escorted office visit. Patients can drive and resume normal activities immediately after the procedure is completed.

General Anesthesia

Though 90 percent of patients who require sedation fall into the categories listed above, some may require general anesthesia in order to relieve the anxiety associated with dental procedures.

If general anesthesia is chosen, Dr. Grundstrom will arrange for the patient to be sedated in an outpatient clinic and treated by a medical anesthesiologist while she carries out the procedure. The anesthesiologist will monitor your condition during your visit.

Dr. Grundstrom’s Payment Options

Dr. Grundstrom believes that every patient should have the opportunity to have a perfect smile. Furthermore, she understands that some cosmetic procedures can seem financially overwhelming. For that reason, she accepts all major credit cards and offers 0% financing for qualifying patients. She also offers an Advance Payment Plan, in which patients can make monthly or weekly deposits to an account to save up for any type of dental work they would like to have done.
